Three Steps - Javelyn

One, two, three, two
Three steps forward, two steps back

Was walkin’ down the street,
Having too much to eat, stuck in
Thoughts turnin’ round in my head.
Quite oblivious - to the world I was in,
Birds were flyin’, bees were singin’ in time.
Didn’t know what to do, it was a
Quarter to two, I still had
Errands and people to meet
As I was crossin’ the street, there was a
Man who just smiled, he looked straight
At me, and here’s what he said, he said.

Three steps forward, two steps back.
Gotta get back on that track.
And darlin’, I want you to know
You can join me in that flow.

I didn’t know what he meant
Or even where he was sent
He disappeared the minute I turned my head.
Was like a dream - the kind I had once before,
A kind of mystical, magical feel.
It was the afternoon, and I was late to my job,
My head throbbin, heart bleedin’ in time
I did not notice the girl who was atappin’
A tune, on the sidewalks
For only a dime

And there I was
Back in my mind
Wanted to scream or hide
Or climb back under the covers. - That girl said

Three steps forward, two steps back.
Gotta get back on that track.
And darlin’, I want you to know
You can join me in that flow.

My heart was broken again
And my debt was too high to let the
Thoughts linger long in my head.
Couldn’t wait to unwind, but knew I didn’t have time
My boss was waitin’, tapping impatiently.
When people looked at me, I knew they’d plainly see
A woman actin’ right out of her mind
But as I slowly came to, I saw a man climbin’ through
The window wired right over my head, whistlin’

Three steps forward, two steps back.
Gotta get back on that track.
And darlin’, I want you to know
You can join me in that flow.
